Thardeep Rural Development Programme
Thardeep Rural Development Programme (TRDP) is a not-for-profit integrated rural development programme. TRDP works with poor and vulnerable segments of society particularly women in the most deprived and remote areas of Sindh Province.
Social mobilization is the foundation of TRDP program. With participation of community institutions, TRDP implements activities under five major themes: 1) sustainable livelihoods, enterprise development and poverty graduation, 2) elementary education with focus on girl’s education, 3) mother and child health, 4) food security and nutrition improvement and 5) disaster preparedness, management, and water & sanitation.

TRDP is working in 14 districts of Sindh which are Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Tando Allahyar, Hyderabad, Matiari, Dadu, Jamshoro, Badin, Sanghar, Thatta, Shaheed Benazir Abad, Khairpur and Jacobabad.

PAIDAR – Poverty Alleviation and Inclusive Development Across Rural Sindh
(Microgrants for Setting up Micro/Small Businesses)
TRDP is implementing the Microgrants component of the PAIDAR programme in District Tharparkar, Sindh, with funding support from the European Union and technical guidance from United Nation’s Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
Thematic Focus of the Microgrants
Micro-grants would be awarded for a diverse range of viable business ideas in any area that contributes to the objectives of the PAIDAR project. Grants will be awarded as per the application and guidelines compliance. However, grants would not be awarded in these four negative list areas: a) infrastructure/ construction, b) subsistence grants, c) grants for non-productive purposes such as purchase of appliances etc., and d) production of agriculture & livestock.

The survey is still ongoing. All such villages in all talukas of both Tharparkar and Umerkot districts that meet the given criteria will be included. The criteria for establishing a center is that the village must have at least 30 girls who have passed the fifth grade, but were unable to continue their education. These centers are exclusively for the education of girls.

Mithi (June 06, 2026): Speakers at the seminar “Thar at Crossroads: Climate, Culture and Survival” emphasized the critical and urgent need to protect Thar’s fragile ecosystem, biodiversity, and centuries-old traditions of social harmony. They warned that rising temperatures and climate-induced disasters could make several areas of Sindh, including Thar, increasingly uninhabitable in the coming decades.
The speakers stressed the importance of planting and protecting native trees, promoting biodiversity, preventing and rehabilitating soil erosion by establishing green fencing, conserving grazing lands, and reviving traditional methods of water conservation. They cautioned that growing water scarcity, depletion of aquifers, and migration from villages to towns are disturbing the delicate balance between people, wildlife, and nature.They called for a lead role of local communities in safeguarding Thar’s future.
Educationist Noor Ahmed Janjhi, Environmentalist Nasir Panhwar, Dr. Romi S. Hayat, CEO, IRM and Chairman , Climate Action Forum - CAF, Dr. Tahir Rasheed, CEO, BRSP, and Dr. Sono Khangharani from the TRDP, BoD, spoke on the occasion. At the event, environmentalist and author Nasir Panhwar presented copies of his newly published book 'Earthly Matters' as a gift to TRDP library.

Congratulations to the entire team and all the speakers for the successful seminar “Thar at Crossroads: Climate, Culture and Survival” on June 6, 2026. This was indeed a timely and crucial discussion. Emphasis on protecting Thar's fragile ecosystem, preserving its rich biodiversity, and reviving traditional water conservation methods were discussed and suggestions shred accordingly. 𝗠𝗮𝗺𝘁𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲: Orientation on the Mamta Programme was held in Dadu under the Strengthening Social Protection Delivery System in Sindh (SSPDS) Project, in partnership with Sindh Social Protection Authority (SSPA) and Thardeep Rural Development Programme (TRDP). The programme aims to improve maternal, newborn, and child health through conditional cash transfers for eligible pregnant women and mothers of children under two years of age.
The orientation was attended by field staff, 40 Community Resource Persons (CRPs), PPHI representatives, SSPA officials, and TRDP team members. Participants were oriented on programme objectives, beneficiary identification, registration procedures, eligibility criteria, grievance redress, community mobilization, and coordination with health facilities.
The key maternal and child health services, including antenatal care, safe delivery, postnatal care, immunization, and growth monitoring, were also discussed. The orientation concluded with an interactive discussion on strengthening outreach, referrals, and district-level coordination to support vulnerable women and children. (Dadu, June 06, 2026)
